Name: Dan Mims
Location: New York City
Profession: Founder, The Ethical Man
Current Diet: Vegan
What got you interested in veganism?: I had always considered myself an environmentalist and an animal lover. When my twin brother went vegetarian in college, his initiative forced me to confront my own behavior, and pretty soon I realized that going vegan was inevitable. After going vegetarian for about a year, I forced myself to watch several videos of factory farming, and that’s what did it. Vegan for life. That was almost seven years ago.
What do you hope to get out of the trip?: I’m looking forward to making friends and to helping vegan-friendly men become more effective in life.
Other Random Thoughts: In 2006, Dan graduated from UPenn with Honors in Philosophy (and hundreds of hours of activism under his non-leather belt). As he had always intended, Dan soon moved to New York City. He did not intend, however, that New York would move him as much as it has — catalyzing a deep passion and respect for personal style and presentation. After going vegan six years earlier, and after working for nearly four years in marketing and media sales for Spin Magazine and Yahoo!, Dan founded The Ethical Man — the first-ever 100% vegan apparel store for men, with a unique advice blog — to bring style, value, and peace of mind to men around the world. He also drums for vegan band HERE (set to release their first album in Fall 2010) and manages an underground art space, The Yolk.
